Animal prints veer in and out of fashion – and right now, they’re ostensibly “in”. Of course, for some people, wild patterns are a mainstay in their wardrobes regardless of transient trends, but if we’re talking bigger picture, then leopard, zebra, tiger, cow and giraffe finishes are all witnessing a moment in the spotlight right now; seen on the runways, the street-style set and all over social media.
The best way to incorporate animal print into your rotation is to start off with accessories. If you’re a tame dresser, then with an animal-print bag you’ll avoid buying something you might not wear – say, an avant-garde, hard-to-style, leopard-print coat. As someone who doesn’t have a whole lot of animal prints in their wardrobe – save for my recent addition of velvet Mary Janes from Le Monde Beryl – I road-tested one of Talia Byre’s new zebra-print barrel bags during London Fashion Week (it will also soon be available in cow and giraffe). It was both a convenient and a conversation-starting accessory to carry for the show stint and I have been resistant to part ways with it in the days since.
For autumn, I’ve got my eye on vintage animal-print bags – specifically, styles that look a little worn-in. I’m forever in the market for a shoulder bag similar to the one that Kate Moss was famously pictured with in the ’90s, or a Louis Vuitton Azzedine Alaïa Alma. Scroll on to see some other noteworthy wild companions to invest in, now.
