Until recently, the word “boho” was tarnished by the unstoppable content machine that is Coachella. For one weekend only, festival goers dress up in flower crowns, fringed waistcoats and lace maxi dresses for their Palm Springs pool parties, looking like time-travelling hippies transported straight from Woodstock. Although different iterations of this “endless summer” look have come in and out of fashion since the ’60s, this most recent version was less free-spirited and more #sponcon. However for autumn/winter 2024, boho is having a renaissance and hasn’t looked this cool since Sienna Miller’s Primrose Hill days.
Fringing and boho maxi skirts featured across the collections, however it was Chemena Kamali’s debut at Chloé which really fortified this revival and showed how you can approach bohemian style in a modern way. The autumn/winter 2024 collection was more grown-up and muted than the boho many of us shopped in Topshop in the Noughties, with ruffled, airy blouses and maxi dresses in earthy pinks, blues and peach tones, and wisp-of-a-thing slip dresses dresses toughened up with leather and patent jackets. Not a paisley print or heavy embellishment in sight. The wafting silhouettes certainly brings a lightness to the look, however knee-high boots, capes and black lace prove that the aesthetic isn’t just for summer.
The full collection might not be available to purchase yet, but the likes of Sydney Sweeney, Sienna Miller, Suki Waterhouse and Daisy Edgar-Jones have already been sporting full Chloé looks, ensuring that there is plenty of buzz around this new look boho. There are a number of ruffled, chiffon dresses currently making their way into new-in sections, however if you want a more subtle take, there are certain tweaks you can make to tap into the Chemena Kamali aesthetic. From flared jeans and brown suede accessories to pendant necklaces, keep reading for how to make boho work for autumn and beyond.
