It’s that time of the year again. Summer is over, grey skies are looming, and everyone who “enjoys dressing for autumn” is finally in their element. September brings with it a certain scholarly energy which, in fashion terms, means an influx of loafers, white shirts, and pleated skirts. It’s also when the new spring/summer collections are shown and magazines release their bumper fashion issues, full to the brim with new outfit ideas and inspiration.
At the shows in New York and London, attendees embraced the preppy mood in a variety of ways. The street-style set offered up a variety of ways to wear white shirts, including embellished skirts and knitwear pairings. Sporty moments also featured heavily in both cities: rugby tops, baseball caps and football shirts were given a polished spin, styled with sleek tailoring. However you may feel about autumn’s imminent arrival, it’s never a bad idea to embrace the back-to-school mood – scroll on for more inspiration.
