Working at British Vogue gives you a front row seat for the occasionally Shakespearean action unfolding on the fashion stage. But as a shopping editor, it’s also my job to get into the mindset of the everyday consumer – whether it’s the brands delivering the sorts of designs that people genuinely want to wear (after all, good marketing can only go so far), or the silhouettes making shoppers feel their best.
It was while speaking to a friend who works in a corporate environment that I fully grasped the impact that British fashion brand Me+Em has had on the mid-priced market – particularly when it comes to smart-casual dressing. Of course, I have witnessed the many high-profile cameos it has enjoyed over the years – on politicians, members of royalty, and A-listers including Katie Holmes, Bella Hadid and Margot Robbie – but when my friend told me that pretty much all of the women at her high-powered law firm (all of whom seek style, polish, quality and function from their wardrobe) were exclusively wearing the brand, I knew it was really doing something right.
