What Vogue’s Shopping Editor Packed For A Trip To The Caribbean

Sponsored by Tommy Hilfiger

It’s a glorious Monday morning on the Caribbean island of Canouan and the early morning light is streaming through the white-washed shutters of my hotel room. Outside, the golden sand of the private beach is being carefully raked and striped towels are being lined up with military precision. Nearby, a tortoise is making its toddling commute along the boardwalk. There is something very The White Lotus about this shimmering vision, and while I’m not aware of any unfolding homocide, I’m only 24 hours into my trip, and yesterday someone nabbed the last sun lounger, so, you know, anything could happen.

Packing for a far-flung holiday – or any holiday, for that matter – is a fine art that can take years to master. Editing one’s entire wardrobe down to fit a small cuboid, roughly the size and weight of a hotel mini fridge, can be a Sisyphean task – especially for anyone with the same level of dedication to accumulating vintage jackets that I have. But as the saying goes, what doesn’t kill you stronger, and as long as the five hardback books that I wedged into my carry-on don’t fall on me mid-flight, there’s hope for me yet.

After all, as a fashion journalist who regularly attends fashion weeks and travels for work (both, incidentally, scenarios where the outfit stakes are higher than average), I have had no choice but to become fluent in the language of capsuling, and after 13 years, I can tentatively say that I have mastered the basics. However, this four-day jaunt to a Caribbean island with Tommy Hilfiger – which included a packed itinerary of dinners, drinks, boat excursions and water sports – was going to test the limits of my packing prowess.

Luckily, Tommy Hilfiger’s spring/summer 2025 collection is a smorgasbord of holiday-ready heroes – the sort of easy staples that are comfortable yet polished, versatile yet chic. My top-line takeaways? Consider items that can be worn multiple ways – take the striped silk scarf, which can be knotted onto a beach bag and worn as a bandana on the beach, or as a scarf top for dinner. Also, don’t forget to check out the men’s section, as I found some of my favourite pieces there – the men’s linen cargo trousers were a real highlight.
