The headlining denim trends for summer 2025 include embellished denim and baggy silhouettes, however there is one visual reference that will always be high on any summer denim mood-board — Kate Moss wearing flared, patch-pocket jeans to attend the Topshop show in 2006.
It’s impossible to miss the boho revival in 2025, led by Chloé designer Chemena Kamali who has ushered in a return of flouncy silhouettes, wooden clogs and flared denim, which have a carefree, sun-soaked appeal. In February, we wrote how flared denim is having a quiet resurgence — Kamali has taken her finale bows at Chloé in various blouse and flare combos. However, one small design detail — patch pockets at the hip — add a nostalgic, Parisian charm to any pair of flares.
One of Kate Moss’s most effortless ensembles is the grey oversized T-shirt and patch pocket light-wash jeans and black sandals she wore to sit on the front row at the Topshop Unique show in 2006. This was the year before her first Topshop collaboration was released (which is still generating hype on resale sites), and so these jeans aren’t a Mossy special, but are in fact by Chloé – perhaps this why, almost two decades later, these archive pictures feel so perfect for summer 2025, as they are very in line with Chemena Kamali’s own vision. The model has long been a fan of jeans with patch pockets, and was also a fan of signature style of Gérard Darel’s signature pair, the Anna.
As the ’70s trend is only intensifying for summer 2025, with maxi dresses, suede everything and fringing coming to the fore, a pair of patch pocket jeans make a charming addition to any summer wardrobe. Pair with the sandal of the summer – open toe clogs –and a loose chiffon blouse, for an effortless summertime look.
