“Pay attention to the venue and the time of year, as I have found it can work to keep your colour scheme and print somewhat thematic. This can be an easy way to make sure you are in-keeping with the overall vibe of the wedding, and won’t stand out for all of the wrong reasons. For countryside celebrations, I’d consider painterly florals in rich burgundy, oranges and reds (like this satin maxi by Aje), as it will look beautiful against the changing landscape, and more unusual than your typical cheery floral prints. One of my favourite wedding looks I’ve worn for a cooler day was this deep red satin dress by Nanushka, and so for autumn weddings I always consider an autumn leaf colour palette of orange, rust and burgundy.” – Emma Spedding

“I love to wear a black dress to a wedding because it’s the easiest and quickest way to look slick. I’ve also got a lot in my wardrobe already so I don’t need to buy anything new. While we’re seeing black being adopted more, it’s still a relatively unworn colour for weddings and so there’s less of a chance of someone turning up in the same dress. I was pretty sure I’d be the only one wearing a black Rick Owens batwing maxi dress to a friend’s wedding in the Cotswolds, and I was proven right. I still love the quote that Lauren Santa Domingo once gave us for a Vogue wedding special: she said that anyone can wear black to a wedding, unless you’ve slept with the groom.
