The great British high street has been through the wringer over the last decade, yet even against the economic headwinds and global lockdowns, Uniqlo has remained the golden standard for utilitarian design. From perfectly executed white tees and cargo trousers to sporty track tops and throw-everything-in sling bags (Uniqlo’s ubiquitous bag was declared Lyst’s hottest product in Q1 2023), the brand was repping functional fashion long before gorpcore was part of the cultural conversation.
But far from being a one-dimensional “fashion staples and socks” shop, Uniqlo has also developed a reputation for being an under-the-radar fashion editor favourite. The men’s section, in particular, is regularly pillaged by eager fashion folk craving clean-lined, yet well-made pieces – the crew-neck cashmere jumpers, shirting and elasticated-waist trousers are often cited as wardrobe non-negotiables. And that’s not to mention the lust-worthy designer collabs with the likes of JW Anderson and Marni (I still have well-loved dresses from both collections).
You’ll be happy to hear that this season’s Uniqlo offering is looking as tempting as ever, with everything you could want for a utility-chic summer. We’re talking sell-out trackies (see Mia Portet’s review here), versatile longline shorts, throw-on checked shirts and barrel-leg trousers. Scroll down to see and shop our new-in edit.
