Besides wearing wellies at Glastonbury or walking boots for hiking in the Dolomites, boots probably aren’t the first footwear option that come to mind for the summer months. But there are climates in which wearing boots and dresses can work, such as cool August days (we all know how unreliable the British weather can be) or when the mercury drops on holiday and you’re wondering what to wear for dinner.
It’s easy to think of the boots that aren’t destined for summer usage – anything shearling-lined or airbrushed thigh-highs, for example – but what about the ones that are? Loose-fitting styles that linger below the knee, like biker boots or cowboys – as well as riding boots or pointed knee-highs – will stop you from overheating, while ankle-grazing styles can also work with a dress, depending on the hemline length.
